The Family Outreach therapist provides in-home and individual therapy, support, and advocacy to children and their families, with the goal of improving family functioning and well-being.  Staff work with families to teach positive conflict resolution and problem-solving, coping, behaviour management for children, feelings expression, and self-empowerment, as well as link families and offer advocacy as needed to community resources.

The therapist must have theoretical knowledge of social services.  Demonstrate technical and clinical skills including delivery of therapy and concrete services.  Focus on improving the client's quality of life and child well-being.

 

Therapist's Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Program

  • Assess client needs.  Formulate and implement case treatment plans for individuals, children, families and/or groups.
  • Utilize clinical tools and measurements in service delivery.
  • Provide supervision to bachelor level staff, student interns and volunteers when assigned.
  • Report suspicions of child abuse and neglect according to Agency procedures.

Administrative

  • Adhere to performance standards, including completion of all paperwork in a professional manner within the designated time frames.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule including some evening and weekend work to accommodate the needs of the program. Be accessible to assigned clients twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week via cell phone in accordance with program specifications.
  • Notify supervisor to arrange for coverage during illness and paid time-off.
  • Demonstrate professional responsibility in making effective use of individual supervision, agency resources and trainings.

 

Therapist's Necessary Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to exercise independent thinking and good judgment under all circumstances.
  • Must be able to analyze work, set goals, develop plans and utilize time effectively and efficiently.
  • Must regularly be able to see, speak and hear.  Frequently required to stand, sit, walk, bend, use hands and arms and must occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be sensitive, flexible and responsive to gender, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, religion, age, sexual orientation or any other special needs as reflected in the ability to communicate with staff and/or clients.
  • To uphold and advance the values, ethics, knowledge and mission of the profession.
  • To respect the privacy of clients and hold in confidence all information obtained in the course of professional service.
  • Behave in accordance with safety tips, policy and procedures as guided by Risk Management.
  • Serve as a positive representative for the agency, treating internal customers with respect, courtesy and fairness.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to carry out assigned tasks.
  • Assume an active role in fundraising events.

  Minimum Requirements of Experience and Training.

  • Therapist must have Masters degree required. MSW candidates must have LSW to be eligible.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, use of an insured vehicle and an acceptable driving record.
